You need to combine repeatable gear, weekly raid rewards, Great Vault choices, crafted items, and carefully timed Catalyst conversions.
Patch 12.1 launches on August 11, 2026, while Midnight Season 2 begins on August 18, 2026. Patch week gives you access to item level 292 Mythic 0 gear and Season 2 Great Vault credit. The raid, Mythic+, Bountiful Delves, higher Tidebound Grotto difficulties, and claimable Season 2 Vault gear open one week later.

Craft a guaranteed item in a slot with poor drop coverage.

Why it works: Weekly-limited sources usually produce more value per hour than endless low-key farming. The Emperor calls this efficiency. His raid leader calls it finally reading the calendar.

Open the Great Vault before you spend
Follow this order at the start of each reset:
Open the Vault.
Compare tier, weapon, trinket, rare-effect, track, and upgrade potential.
Review the raid bosses and dungeons you will run during the current week.
Delay your final selection if a likely same-day drop could change the decision.
Choose, then craft, catalyze, enchant, and upgrade.
Season 2 also makes Nebulous Voidcores available through the Great Vault. Eight weeks into the season, bonus rolls and Ascendant Venomstones expand through other content. Ascendant Venomstones can raise eligible weapons, trinkets, and necklaces toward the Myth 8-equivalent level.
When crafted gear is worth the cost
Craft when the item does at least one of these jobs:
Provides a high-value weapon your loot pool has not supplied.
Activates one of your chosen embellishments.
Locks in ideal secondary stats on a difficult slot.
Replaces a weak slot with no realistic short-term raid or dungeon target.
Creates a long-term item you can improve through recrafting.
Do not craft only to inflate average item level by one point. Sparks are limited, high-end crafted upgrades consume a major crest investment, and duplicate Vault loot has a wicked sense of humor.

The Season 2 Catalyst converts eligible armor into class-set pieces. Converted tier armor now retains the original item’s secondary stats and eligible cantrip effects, so the base item matters.

Its secondary stats suit your specialization.

You are unlikely to replace the slot during the current reset.

Average item level is useful, but character power does not rise evenly across every slot.
