Greetings, Denizens of the Azeroth Galaxy!

Altar of Fangs is one of those dungeons where the bosses are only half the danger. A missed interrupt in the wrong trash pack can turn a confident Mythic+ pull into five adventurers inspecting the floor.

This guide follows the dungeon in order, from the first six totems through Rav’i, The Writhing Coil, the final trash packs, and Zul’jan. The focus is simple: what to interrupt, what to dodge, when to use defensives, and which mechanics can end the run.

The Emperor has reviewed the strategy. The snakes have not approved it.

🌀The Innkeeper’s Note (TL;DR)

Altar of Fangs rewards controlled pulls more than reckless speed. The first path has several dangerous enemies stacked together, so your group should prioritize interrupts and crowd control before trying larger pulls.

The biggest trash priorities are Piercing Hiss, Evolve, Mass Envenom, and Toxic Atrophy. Tanks also need to respect Ravenous Descendants because their attack speed ramps quickly.

For the bosses, remember three rules:

  • Rav’i: Feed the boss only from the clean bone pile.

  • The Writhing Coil: Rotate interrupts and stay close enough to dodge its large frontals.

  • Zul’jan: Block the poison beams, then use the spinning axes to remove Ritual Venom.

Control first, damage second. Dead DPS still parses at exactly zero.

⚡Quick Guide!

📍Location

Altar of Fangs is located inside the Vaults of Atal’Utek.

The dungeon path revolves around destroying totems while dealing with serpent-themed trash packs before reaching the three bosses:

  1. Rav’i, the Ravenous Hydra

  2. The Writhing Coil

  3. Zul’jan

First Path, Destroy Six Totems

Your first objective is to destroy six totems.

The danger here is not one enemy. It is what happens when several dangerous enemies are pulled together.

Primal Serpent

  • The Primal Serpent casts Piercing Hiss.

  • This is one of your highest interrupt priorities.

  • If several Primal Serpents are active during a large pull, coordinate interrupts instead of everyone kicking the same cast.

  • Priority: Stop Piercing Hiss.

Twinfang Harrower

  • Watch for Toxic Breath.

  • This is a frontal attack, so stay away from the front of the enemy.

  • The Twinfang Harrower also uses Paralyzing Shots. Dispel the effect or use movement-freedom abilities to remove it.

Priority actions:

  • Dodge Toxic Breath.

  • Dispel Paralyzing Shots.

  • Use movement-freedom abilities if available.

Ravenous Descendant

  • This enemy is especially dangerous for tanks.

  • The Ravenous Descendant enrages and rapidly gains attack speed during combat. If the fight lasts too long, its melee damage can become brutal.

  • Tanks should use defensives, while the group uses stuns and crowd control to reduce the pressure.

Priority actions:

  • Tank uses defensives.

  • Stun when possible.

  • Avoid stacking several Descendants unless your group can handle them.

Ritual Chieftain

  • The Ritual Chieftain applies a healing absorb to the entire party.

  • The healer needs to prepare for this, but the rest of the group should help.

  • Use personal healing, potions, Healthstones, or defensive abilities when needed.

How Large Should You Pull?

Be careful combining two or three packs containing these enemies.

A large pull can quickly fall apart because:

  • Piercing Hiss casts overlap.

  • Ravenous Descendants overwhelm the tank.

  • Healing absorbs pressure the healer.

  • Toxic Breath limits positioning.

Start with two groups and judge your party’s interrupts, gear, cooldowns, and control before pulling more.

Also avoid the venom puddles on the floor.

Fighting Near the Totems

  • When enemies are standing beside an active totem, pull them away from the totem’s pulsing damage.

  • The Primal Serpent may remain behind because it is casting.

  • Interrupt it so it moves toward the tank.

  • If you have a Death Knight, the problem becomes considerably simpler. Grip the serpent into the group and continue the pull.

  • For a large opening pull, Bloodlust can be used immediately.

  • For a smaller opening pull, save Bloodlust for Rav’i.

Final Altar of Fangs Checklist

Before starting your key, remember the mechanics most likely to cause trouble:

  • Trash: Stop Piercing Hiss, Evolve, Mass Envenom, and Toxic Atrophy.

  • Rav’i: Clean bones only.

  • Writhing Coil: Rotate three interrupts, stay close for Venom Jet, run out of Death Rattle.

  • Zul’jan: Block the beams, then use the axes to clear Ritual Venom.

  • Master those four ideas and Altar of Fangs becomes far more predictable.

The dungeon still has snakes, poison, blood, giant axes, and an angry troll, of course. Azeroth apparently has very relaxed workplace safety laws.

Handling the Burnout: How to Manage Failures

The Midnight Nemesis and the Mage Tower fights are not tests of your gear; they are tests of your patience and muscle memory.
Expect to wipe.
A lot.
Here is how to stay sane and turn those "Defeat" screens into a "Victory."
